NEEDLEWORK WORKSHOP WITH JO DIXEY
We are thrilled to promote this amazing workshop with Jo Dixey who hand-embroidered embellishments on Kōpū’s dress for the movie ‘Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End’!
Jo trained at the Royal School of Needlework in England, and now works on big productions like Mulan! She remembered she had embroidered the same design on 30 costumes for a water scene for a major TV series!
Jo laughed about the fact that the last time she saw Kōpū’s costume, it was brand new – now it really looks like it’s from the 1860s with all the wear and tear that’s been added to it! Jo has a number of her artworks in private and public collections, like Te Papa Tongarewa who acquired her hand-embroidered 3D Covid virus she created during lockdown.
In this workshop you will be attempting to work on the beautiful leaf pattern seen here in the red and blue thread, similar to Kōpū’s neck line needlework from the film ‘Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End’!
