Description

The Cambridge Memorial Park Memorial Gates were unveiled on Anzac Day 1952 at the park’s main entrance on Taylor Street. Established by the Cambridge Rugby Club, the park and gates honour the young men from the district who lost their lives in World War II.

A plaque on the gates dedicates the playing fields as a memorial and features a roll of honour listing 87 names. The park has served as a living tribute since the first games were played there in 1946, bearing a plaque inscribed:

“THIS GATEWAY / AND THESE PLAYING FIELDS / ARE DEDICATED AS / A MEMORIAL TO / THE YOUNG MEN OF THE DISTRICT / WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE / 1939-45 WAR”
