Description
Stewart Reid Memorial Park in Ngāhinapōuri was established in 1946 when Neil and Gracie Reid donated 5¼ acres to the residents of Ngāhinapōuri and Tuhikaramea in memory of their son, Pilot Officer Stewart Walter Reid, who was killed in action during World War II.
The park features a war memorial built by public subscription, as well as memorial gates erected by Stewart’s siblings. Thirty-four memorial trees were planted, each representing a man from the district who served in the war. The park stands as a lasting tribute to both Stewart and the broader community’s sacrifice during the conflict.
