Chris Storey is believed to be a local artist whose works were previously on display at the Te Awamutu Library. It is suggested that one of these artworks may have been gifted to the library at that same time.
This artwork was presented to the Cambridge Borough Council on its centenary, August 1986 by the Spinners and Weavers Club.
Each separate piece of the main design represents branches as trees are a distinct feature in Cambridge.
The four coloured parts of this piece depict the following (from left to right):
– Wars
– Conflict between the Redcoats and local Māori
– Transformation into a tree form
– Unity with the colours intermingled showing togetherness of people
