Physical description A painting based on the emotional journey of the artist through one of the Waipā’s most contentious times of the ‘Land Wars’ in the Waikato.

Description

The artwork depicts the sacking of Rangiaowhia 1864. A food producing village known as the economic hub of the Waikato, Rangiaowhia was the largest settlement of Māori at that time. However, due to the encroaching British forces into the Waikato, the village had sent all its warriors to defend Paterangi Pā leaving behind only women, children, elderly and the disabled.

Hamilton-born artist Richard Lewer works and lives in Melbourne, Australia. Working across a range of medium, his art explores the intimate, though at times uncomfortable, terrain of his own personal history. This painting was gifted to Council.

Physical description A painting using graphic nature-inspired icons with a Tui on a flax flower stem.

Description

This artwork was created by the artists of Enrich+ led by arts facilitator Teresa Siemonek. The artists are; Deshan Walallavita, Julie Tate, Kathleen Bayer and Caitlin Thomas.

Enrich+ artists gifted the arwork to Mayor Susan O’Regan. It is on display in the Mayor’s office.

Physical description A theme of different ideas around learning and education using the library as a focus.

Description

Teresa Siemonek is a local artist, who along with the Rosebank Art Centre provided the expertise and space to collaborate with teenage art students aged 11-17.

The purpose of the artwork is to enhance the library space, encourage reading for pleasure and inspire community wellbeing.

This art collaboration was funded by the National Library of New Zealand and was initiated by the Te Awamutu Library.

This artwork hangs in the Te Awamutu Library.

Description

Henriata Nicholas is of Ngāti Unu Ngāti Kahu descent from Te Kōpua Marae, Waipā. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who has major public artworks in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and in private collections throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.

This artwork was designed as a reflection of the regions’ history, landscape and people. The taputoru triangles depict the district’s complex historical narratives woven together forming interesting landscapes of mountains rivers and forests. The koru patterns are symbolic of the regions Māori culture depicting growth and development.

Aniwaniwa is on show in the Te Awamutu Library foyer.

Description

Charles Stewart is a local Waipā artist. He participated in the Rosebank Art Centre exhibition at the Te Awamutu Library in 2022.

This artwork was gifted to Council by the artist circa 2016.
