Description

Bernard Kowalak (b1951) has been a professor of visual arts for more than thirty years at the Eugene-Thomas College in Le Quesnoy, France. He has presented his works internationally including here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This artwork was gifted from Senateur Maire Raoult and the people of Le Quesnoy, France. It was officially unveiled by the French Ambassador to Aotearoa New Zealand in the presence of the Governor General of Aotearoa New Zealand, Sir Michael Hardy-Boys and the then Mayor of Waipā District Council, John Hewitt on 16th February 1999.

Description

Jan Lucas (1936) completed the Te Awamutu ‘Bush’ series of paintings and staged her first solo exhibition in 1972. She has since exhibited in many locations throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and lived locally in the Waikato.

This painting is believed to have won a Benson & Hedges Art Award in 1972.

Description

Marcia Barker was a very well respected local artist working in both oil and watercolour. Little is known about her life and career.

This artwork was presented to the Waipā County Council on the occasion of the Celebration of 100 years of Local Government in Te Awamutu 1984.

Description

Leslie Thomas Finch (1940-1983) born in Te Awamutu, was part of a large farming family from Ōhaupo. He was a self-taught artist who painted in both watercolour and oil.

Finch exhibited in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. He was heavily involved with Te Awamutu and ran a successful florist business in town.

This artwork was presented by the Te Awamutu Business and Professional Womens’ Club for the Te Awamutu Borough Centenary in 1984.
