Description

Teresa Siemonek is a local artist, who along with the Rosebank Art Centre provided the expertise and space to collaborate with teenage art students aged 11-17.

The purpose of the art work is to enhance the library space, encourage reading for pleasure and inspire community wellbeing.

This art collaboration was funded by the National Library of New Zealand and was initiated by the Te Awamutu Library.

This art work hangs in the Te Awamutu Library.

Description

Henriata Nicholas is of Ngāti Unu Ngāti Kahu descent from Te Kōpua Marae, Waipā. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who has major public artworks in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and in private collections throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.

This artwork was designed as a reflection of the regions’ history, landscape and people. The taputoru triangles depict the district’s complex historical narratives woven together forming interesting landscapes of mountains rivers and forests. The koru patterns are symbolic of the regions Māori culture depicting growth and development.

Aniwaniwa is on show in the Te Awamutu Library foyer.

Description

Kayrene Ruth Trask (1945-) is an Aotearoa New Zealand artist.

These three prints are a series known as the “Centennial Collection” 1993. They were issued by the Turnbull Library to mark the achievement of suffrage campaigners, led by Kate Sheppard in 1891, 1892 and 1893. These works are numbered 25 of an edition of 1000 printed – making them a limited edition.

Physical description

A series of art works collected by Mrs Marianne Brider of Cambridge and gifted to Council. Each artwork has its particular theme and mediums used.

Description

Marianne Estelle married a retired newspaper publisher Herbert Arthur Brider in Wanganui, 1944. They settled in Cambridge where she was a keen member of the Historical Society.

They resided in Thornton Road, then Bryce Street and finally in Grey Street. Herbert died in Cambridge, February 1955 and Estelle on 26th December 1959. They are both buried at Hautapu Cemetery.

Mrs Brider was the granddaughter of Rev Richard Davis who was sent to Aotearoa New Zealand, with his wife and six eldest children in 1824, by the church Missionary Society to become farmer to the Mission Station. 

Mrs Brider bequeathed twenty-seven artworks to Council in 1960. It is the most significant collection within the Council Art Collection in terms of the number of works, the calibre of artists and the provenance coming all from one donor.

Description

Craig Primrose was born in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand in 1956, he is one of our leading contemporary artists, known throughout the world for his skillful portraiture, sporting imagery and stunning landscapes.

His skill in portraiture has led him to being commissioned to paint Sir Edmund Hillary, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Mt Everest in 1953 and subsequently was appointed as Sir Edmund’s preferred artist.

This artwork is a limited edition print, Number 31/200, copied from the original watercolour.
