Matariki is a very special time as it celebrates the Māori New Year! This is the time to think about what we have achieved, things we want to look forward to, sew gardens for the new season, and think about loved ones with us, or those who have gone to the stars! Kākāpō is a special host of this month’s activities as she is a nocturnal flightless parrot who likes to dance with Kiwi in the moonlight! Kākāpō are an endangered species, however, they are the longest-lived bird species, estimated to reach 90 years and are the heaviest parrot species!
